May 2nd 2019 local election candidate: June Stokes

A message from Councillor June Stokes, seeking re-election in Orton Waterville Ward

I count myself very lucky to be living in one of the greenest wards in Peterborough. We have lots of trees and green open spaces throughout the ward, and we have Ferry Meadows on our doorstep. I am very pleased to be a trustee for Nene Park Trust. I have lived in the Ortons for over forty years, since moving into Peterborough from Ramsey. I worked for Freeman's Mail Order for nearly 30 years. I am a widow with two daughters, Karien who attended Longueville School, now Nene Park Academy and Mia who attended Bushfield now Ormiston Academy. I have three grown up Grandchildren who have all moved away.

In addition to passionately representing all residents of the ward as a Parish and City Councillor I also Chair the NHS Scrutiny Committee. I represent the council on the Overview and Scrutiny Committee for the Combined Authority. In my time as a Councillor I have also been Deputy Mayor and Mayor of Peterborough. We have issues with parking in the ward, primarily around schools and on footpaths and grass verges.

These are issues I am working to resolve urgently before it causes an accident. Most of our street lights have been replaced or are in the process of being renewed meaning you can feel safer in your community. Road works will commence soon at Lynch Wood/Oundle Road to reduce congestion in the area and there is a programme for cutting back trees and shrubs in the ward. I was honoured to be re-elected as one of your Councillors in Orton Waterville Ward three years ago and I hope that you will trust me to represent you once again on the 2nd May.

My three top priorities:

1 ENGAGING WITH THE COMMUNITY

Working with local community groups, schools, police and council workers to ensure our communities remain great places to live.

2 CLEANING UP THE STREETS

Volunteering with local residents s on community litterpicks as well as supporting stronger fines against those responsible for littering, fly-tipping and dog-fouling.

3 LISTENING TO RESIDENTS

Continuing with my monthly surgeries, I will also be out surveying residents to hear their views across Orton Brimbles, Southgate, Waterville and Wistow.

Yours sincerely

June Stokes
