After retiring in 2012 from a 30-year career in policing, Andy became actively involved in community and voluntary activities in Peterborough which evolved almost naturally into a desire to stand as a candidate for the city council. He was first elected to the council in 2015 to represent South Bretton. Today he represents Fletton and Woodston ward where he will be seeking re-election next year (2024).
He has been active in responding to the challenges facing parts of the ward such as anti-social behaviour, drug use and rough sleeping, culminating in the launch of a Public Space Protection Order for Woodston.
In recent years he has been supported by local resident Andrew Willey, who was narrowly beaten when he stood for election in 2021, 2022 and again in 2023. Both can be found regularly picking up litter, tackling the 'menace' of dirty needles in public spaces and clearing abandoned encampments.
